S2 Project1 DATA VISUALIZATION

1.brief

2.research

In the research stage, I first read the recommended book data visualization, which explains the content of data visualization in great detail. Show the relatively complex and abstract data in a visual way in a form that is easier for people to understand. Through reading, I found that visualization transforms invisible or difficult to directly display data into perceptible graphics, symbols, colors, textures, etc., so as to enhance the efficiency of data recognition and transmit effective information. In addition to the tangible display of data, visual design should organize data to form a visual story for viewers. Therefore, visual narration is an important field in data visualization design. It expresses and narrates data by telling stories.

Then I saw many excellent cases about data visualization, some of which really gave me a lot of inspiration.

Here is a good example of a complex dataset that looks and feels like a game. In this example, setosa website shows us how the “bus group” phenomenon occurs, that is, when a bus is delayed, multiple buses will arrive at the same time.It was very difficult to tell the story only with numbers, so instead, they turned it into an interactive game. When the bus rotates along the route, we can click and hold a button to delay the bus. Then, all we have to do is observe how a short delay makes the buses gather after a period of time.

This interactive work designed by densitydesign is impressive. It shows many (or most of us) languages in the world in nonverbal ways, with a total of 2678 kinds. This work allows you to browse families using a common language, see which languages are most commonly used, and see the scope of language use around the world. This is a great visual narrative method: interpreting a deep theme in an easy to understand way.

3.Data collection

I want to tell my story in the game world. I collected my relevant data in the dust2 map of csgo. First of all, the game is divided into offensive side and defensive side. A total of up to 30 rounds, the team that gets 16 points first wins, and the attack and reception exchange is carried out every 15 rounds. There are two points in a map. Each point has different attack modes, and each attack mode corresponds to different defense modes.

In this process, smoke bombs, flash bombs and incendiary bombs will be used for attack or defense. Buying different props costs different amounts. I sorted out different attack and defense methods, and calculated the amount of money to spend. Then I tested the props in the real map and sorted out the throwing point, landing point and influence range of the props. Finally, I also collected my performance on this map, kill death ratio, injury, head burst rate and so on.

3.sktech

Then I drew some sketches and calculated all the prop related data.

I used linear sketch to draw some key points on the map

I made the floor plan of the complete map

4.final

The first figure includes the plan of the whole map. We can see different attack routes and the scope of different props on the map. And price statistics. And details of key points.

The second picture shows my personal performance in the last 15 games, showing the killing and death in each round of each game.
